The crucial role of nutrition in maintaining health has never received as much attention as today. From newspapers over lifestyle magazines to the internet - advice on nutrition abunds and most of us have heard of the importance of, say, Omega 3 oils, cholesterol and antioxidants.

The field of dietetics is a relatively modern science. The need for good nutrition to fuel and maitain or body' health has never been greater: The evidence that poor nutrition is a major player in the rise of many chronic health problems and degenartive diseases of the modern day and age including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, obesity, infectious diseases, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and many more, is overwhelming.

There is scientific consensus now that more attention should be placed on carefully selecting food of good nutritional value to guarantee the intake and uptake of essential nutrients as well as eliminating health-damaging foods such as bad fats or bad sugars from our diets.

An excellent introductory short essay on the shortfalls of the modern average western diet has been provided by Cytoplan .

It has been clinically observed and documented that nerves and muscles instantly react to certain foodstuffs. As we insalivate or taste foods nerve endings in our taste buds recognise the food and relay this chemical information via our nerves responsible for the senses of smell and taste on to our central nervous sytem - brain and spinal cord. We have outlined in the Muscle Testing section how extremely sensitive our nerves and connected muscles are to stimulation - physical as well as chemical.

When nerves and muscles are starved of the right fuelling nutrients often a physical wekness is observed. However, it is also possible for certain foods to induce sensitivity or allergic reactions manifesting in muscular and nuerological weakness; symptoms of weakness can include headches, persistent cough, fatigue, irritbable bowel syndrome (IBS). If not corrected these nutriional problems can accumulate to produce back pain or other more general health problems.
